"Mrs. Sylvia Jane Wilson Is 102 Years Old"

Mrs. Sylvia Jane Wilson, who is the oldest person living of the early pioneers of this county, celebrated her 102nd birthday Wednesday of this week, June 18, at her home near Puyallup. Mrs. Wilson was born in Claiborne county, Tennessee, June 18, 1828. In 1862, in company with her first husband, Willis Moore and two children, she crossed the plains in a covered wagon. She was at that time about 36 years of age. The trip required six months and was beset with many dangers, due to hostile Indians from time to time. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the Mexican War of 1846 and she is one of the few living who are today receiving a pension from that war. The family arrived in Oregon in 1863, living for a time at Portland. coming to Lewis county a few months later they settled in the Boistfort district, about 15 miles southwest of Chehalis. Mrs. Wilson lived there until eight years ago, when she moved to Puyallup, where she makes her home with a daughter, Mrs. Louise Johnson, the latter now being 80 years old.

Mrs. Wilson has more than 100 living descendants. Among these are her sons and daughters, three of whom yet live in Lewis county, John Wilson of Curtis, George Wilson of Chehalis and Mrs. M. C. Givens of Klaber. The others are Mrs. Alice Wedge of Bellingham, Mrs. Eliza White of Redland, Calif., and Mrs. Louise Johnson of Puyallup.

Early this year Mrs. Wilson was ill with the flu and she is yet feeling the effects of this, but she is enjoying fairly good health and is able to be about the house and enjoy occasional short visits with friends.
