"Surprisingly Large Number of People Living in Lewis County Have Reached Advanced Ages, 40 or Over"
Mrs. Sylvia Jane Wilson, Puyallup, the widow of George Wilson, is given first position in this division, due to the fact that June 18, this year, she celebrated the 104th anniversary of her birth. She has lived at Puyallup the past ten years, but she and Mr. Wilson originally located at Boistfort in 1863. She remained there until she went to Puyallup to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Louise Johnson, who is now 81; and a granddaughter of Mrs. Wilson's, Mrs. Rachel McCarth, who is 64 years old. Mrs. Wilson was born in Caliborne county, Tenn., in 1828, and was one of thirteen children. The trek across the plains was fraught with many perils, Indians being always a menace. When Mrs. Wilson was born John Quincy Adams was president. She has six living sons and daughters, all highly respected, who have added their part to the development of this part of the great northwest. These are Mrs. Johnson of Puyallup, Mrs. Melissa C. Givens of Chehalis, Mrs. Eliza White of Redlands, Calif., Mrs. Alice Wedige of Bellingham, who was born at Boistfort 64 years ago; John C. Wilson of Curtis and George Wilson of Lacamas prairie. Mrs. Wilson has upwards of forty grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She enjoys a good appetite; her mind is alert, but her hearing and eyesight are failing and she is now obliged to spend part of her time in bed.
